HP prépare un portable PC sur Android

Florian Innocente |

@boboc :

General Magic 1995 !!!

(from1995 General Magic Prospectus
Goldman Sachs International, Alex. Brown & Sons, Smith Barney Inc.)

(ne me demandez pas où je l'ai eu ....)

THE COMPANY
General Magic was founded to develop object-oriented software platform technologies for a new generation of electronic devices, networks and services. The Company has developed two platform technologies called Magic Cap and Telescript. Magic Cap software integrates electronic mail, fax, telephone and paging capabilities, enables wireless and wireline communications, and provides an intuitive user interface for personal intelligent communicators and other communicating devices. Telescript software enables the creation of network platforms by providing a new communications architecture using intelligent mobile software programs ("agents") that route themselves through networks and perform various tasks on behalf of a user, from carrying messages to executing transactions. The Company's technologies are open platforms intended to enable the development of communicating applications (applications using "agents") and services by independent software vendors, electronic merchants and publishers, and other third parties.
The Company believes that Magic Cap and Telescript will support the creation of an "electronic marketplace" in which consumers and business professionals will use various electronic devices (e.g., personal intelligent communicators, personal computers, screen-based telephones, interactive television, video games and public kiosks) to access electronic services which will be available on networks provided by public and private network operators. These electronic services will include electronic mail simple enough to appeal to a mass consumer market, services offered by electronic publishers and merchants that provide people with more timely and individualized information and the ability to carry out transactions (e.g., purchasing from retail catalogs), entertainment offerings (e.g., interactive games), electronic banking and electronic communities such as topic-based "chat" groups. The Company believes that the electronic marketplace will take a decade or more to develop fully.
To promote the emergence of an electronic marketplace based on Magic Cap and Telescript technologies, the Company has formed a strategic alliance with multinational consumer electronics, computer and telecommunication equipment companies, including Sony, Motorola, Apple, Fujitsu, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Northern Telecom, Philips, Oki, Sanyo and Toshiba, and large network operators such as AT&T, Cable & Wireless, France Telecom, Fujitsu and NTT. The strategic alliance members each have an equity investment in the Company and generally are members of the Company's Founding Partners Council, whose charter and membership criteria call for cooperation amongst its members to establish the Company's technologies as global de facto standards by shipping products and services based on the Company's technologies. At present, the only alliance members which are commercially shipping Magic Cap and Telescript-based products or services are Sony, Motorola and AT&T. Certain alliance members are in various stages of developing products or services based on the Company's technologies. Several of the alliance members have entered into license agreements with the Company and the Company is involved in active negotiations with the other alliance members for licensing arrangements with respect to the Company's technologies. There can be no assurance that these products and services will be commercially successful or that any other alliance member will develop or deploy products or services based on the Company's technologies.
General Magic's initial Magic Cap strategy is to establish Magic Cap as a leading software platform for personal intelligent communications by licensing it to companies with greater development, manufacturing and distribution resources and capabilities in exchange for a per unit royalty, and by developing a Magic Cap application for desktop computers, with an initial focus on Windows-based PCs and Macintosh computers. The Company's initial Telescript strategy is to establish Telescript as a global de facto communications standard for enhanced electronic networks by licensing its Telescript technology to large network operators who are positioned to establish Telescript-based networks in key geographies in return for royalties paid to the Company based on usage and, in some cases, subscription. Additionally, the Company is initially concentrating its resources on supporting a select group of approximately 40 applications developers, including Intuit, Mead Data Central and Official Airline Guides, Inc., 13 of whose packages were available within several months of the introduction of the first Magic Cap-based personal intelligent communicator, Sony's Magic Link, and the AT&T PersonaLink network.
